Earnings · live from the filing

The print, read the second it drops

The desk listens to the SEC filing feed itself. Figures land seconds after the release with a verdict against consensus, and the full report is read live for guidance, tone, and risk while the market is still deciding what it means.

Seconds, not minutes

Straight from the filing feed. No wire service, no refresh button.

A verdict, not a number dump

Beat or miss on every figure, sized against consensus.

The whole release, read

Guidance, tone, and risk from the full document, not the headline.

The pipeline

From filing to verdict, in seconds

Most tools poll a calendar and hand you a headline. This desk sits on the source: the filing itself, the moment it becomes public.

01
SEC EDGAR · the source

The filing hits

The desk listens to the SEC feed itself: 8-K earnings releases, and 6-K filings for foreign names. No news wire in between, no polling schedule to miss it.

02
Critical path

Figures land, seconds later

EPS, revenue, and net income are extracted from the release on the critical path. The card renders the moment the numbers clear.

03
Consensus check

Verdict against consensus

Beat, miss, or in line on every figure, with the surprise sized against the estimate. The headline states the takeaway, not a label.

04
Second phase

The whole release, read

Guidance, tone, and risk are read from the full document and slot in beneath the numbers. The gap is a named wait, never a half-loaded card.

Verdicts

Five words a wall of prints scans by

On a busy night, forty names report in an hour. Hue carries the category, the word is always printed beside it, and only the big prints get the loud treatment, so the wall reads in one pass.

Big miss−10% or worseMissed EPS by 14.1%

Sign flips outrank percentages. A profit expected and a loss delivered is a big miss no matter what the arithmetic says: a $0.07 estimate missed by $2.23 is not a “3,186% surprise”, it is a profit that became a loss. The desk says that instead.
The forward half

The market trades the guide

The reported quarter is the scoreboard; guidance is next quarter's price. The desk pulls the forward statements out of the release, gives them their own verdict, and flags what could push the name down.

Guidance raised

Raises Q4 revenue outlook to ~$15.0B on AI networking demand, above consensus.

Guidance lowered

Cuts full-year operating margin outlook to 9 to 10% on freight and promotional pressure.

Guidance maintained

Reaffirms full-year outlook of $6.10 to $6.30 EPS on revenue of $24.5 to $25.0B.

Broke prior guidance

Every print is checked against what the company guided last quarter. Guide $2.9B and deliver $2.6B, and the card says so, with both numbers on it.

Revenue: guided $2.85 to 2.95B · delivered $2.61B
Risks, with the sentence they came from

A guide below consensus, cash conversion falling away from net income, an inventory build outrunning revenue, a line about litigation. Each flag ships with the evidence, quoted, so you never take a claim on faith.

“The Company recorded a $312 million charge related to ongoing litigation…”
Memory

Every print lands with its history

A beat means more on a name that never beats. Every card carries the last four prints: the surprise, the next-day move, and where the stock went in the month after.

Honest by construction

When we are not sure, the card says so

Extraction from a live filing is hard, and pretending otherwise is how readers get burned. Three rules the desk never breaks.

01

Unverified, not dressed up

A figure that fails the extraction check renders with its values and no verdict. Showing the number with an explicit caveat is honest; putting a green bar under it is not.

02

Rescaled, and labeled

Releases misprint scale headers more often than you would think. A figure corrected against consensus carries a visible “rescaled” mark instead of pretending it printed clean.

03

Not stated is a gap, not a doubt

A figure the release never stated is labeled exactly that. It is a different fact from a figure we have but could not vouch for, and the card never conflates the two.
