Premium Selling / Income
Collect theta on calm names
What it is
Sell options to collect premium and let time decay work for you — iron condors and credit spreads (defined risk) or cash-secured puts on names you'd own.
When it works
Elevated IV rank on range-bound, lower-beta names with a clean window (no earnings) and a high POP.
Why the setup pays
Structure = Credit — you're paid up front and want decay. High IV rank is the qualifier: you sell when premium is rich. 30–45 DTE is the theta sweet spot. Risk = Defined (condor / spread) caps loss; a naked put has undefined risk.
The market it wants
Calm / low VIX. Calm, low-VIX, range-bound markets — mid-Expansion. Avoid selling into a falling or spiking-vol tape.
What goes wrong
A sharp move blows through a short strike; selling when IV is low (thin premium); event surprises. Critical: naked (uncovered) short puts and calls carry very large or theoretically unlimited loss — use defined-risk structures (condors, credit spreads) or cash-secured puts on names you'd own, not naked short options, until you have the experience and capital to manage uncovered short vol.
Where it sits in the book
Premium Selling / Income belongs to Options Yield & Volatility Arbitrage, the group whose edge comes from peak of the distribution (muted realised variance). That group looks for low-volatility consolidation, range-bound decay, and its risk profile is market-neutral to mildly biased sideways.
Run this on the live market
This is the thesis the engine scans with. It reads the whole universe, scores what matches, and prices the structures against fair value.
iron condors on range-bound low-beta names with high IV rank and no earnings, 30–45 DTE, 70% POP
